Welcome to the first edition of the NovelaWatch Collectors Club newsletter! I’m thrilled to finally share this community I’ve been meticulously building for timepiece aficionados.

A Spark That Ignited a Passion

My fascination with watches began in the early 1980s as an 8-year-old in rural Southern Indiana when I went into a local 3D Danners with my birthday cash and the intent to buy a BB gun but emerged an hour later with a stainless steel sports watch with a starburst blue dial instead. This encounter ignited a lifelong passion for the intricate mechanics, rich history, and timeless elegance that these marvels of engineering represent. Over the years, my collection grew, and so did my desire to connect with fellow watch lovers.

A Club Where Time Stands Still (But Conversations Flow)

Fast forward to 2015, and NovelaWatch Collectors Club was born. After having written for fun for a few watch magazines, I decided to do something more social. Initially, it was a small gathering of watch enthusiasts at the Gale Hotel on Miami Beach, sharing knowledge and appreciation for these remarkable pieces. As our community flourished, so did our vision. Today, NovelaWatch Collectors Club is a vibrant hub for collectors of all levels. It’s a passion that binds us.

A Journey Through Time: The Evolution of NovelaWatch Collectors Club

From our humble beginnings to our current iteration, NovelaWatch has evolved.

-Social/Lifelong Learning. My original vision in 2015 was for a club focused on both the social aspect of collecting and the educational aspect of horology. A passion for complex mechanical movements requires lifelong learning. What started simply as learning from each other now includes bringing together renowned international watch experts.

-Featured Q&A with watchmakers and industry insiders: We have hosted talks with industry leaders such as Edouard Meylan CEO Moser Watches, François-Xavier Hotier, President Ulysse Nardin, Paul Boutros, Phillips’ Deputy Chairman and Head of Watches, Rich Lopez, SVP and Senior Specialist for Sotheby’s Watches, to name a few.

-Curated exclusive events: We do a mix of cocktails, dinners, and, starting last year, curated travel events, such as our Salón Internacional Alta Relojería (SIAR) trip to Mexico City.

-Forged partnerships with Sponsors. We have worked with financial sponsors such as BNY Mellon, Northern Trust, and JP Morgan and liquor sponsors such as Pernod, Louis XIII, Miraval, and Whispering Angel.

Our core values of fostering a fun and learning environment where watch enthusiasts can come together have remained constant.

Looking Ahead: What the Future Holds for NovelaWatch Collectors Club

We have exciting plans in store for NovelaWatch, and we can’t wait to share them with our members. In the coming year, you can expect:
